Ten new stories to understand Valencian design: we present the second volume of «Scenes of Valencian Design»

The book, dedicated to building the memory of design in the Valencian Community through new perspectives on key figures and milestones of our creative ecosystem, will be presented at the Museu de Belles Arts de València in an event open to the public with the participation of its authors and will include a talk with Andrés Goerlich.

On Thursday, May 28, we will present the second volume of «Scenes of Valencian Design», an editorial project that continues to explore the history and ecosystem of design in our territory through stories that focus on “the part for the whole”.

The event will take place at 6:30 pm in the Museu de Belles Arts de València and will feature the participation of the book’s authors, as well as a talk with Andrés Goerlich, great-nephew of the renowned Valencian architect to whom one of the chapters in this volume is dedicated. This presentation, open to the public and with free admission until full capacity is reached, is supported by the Museu de Belles Arts de València and the Fundación Goerlich.

Published by the Design Foundation of the Region of Valencia, written by Eugenio Viñas, Lidia Caro, Clara Sáez and Vicent Molins, and with art direction by Ibán Ramón, this second volume expands the project launched in 2024 with a new series of chapters that address key episodes, figures and objects in the construction of Valencian design, from a plural and contemporary perspective.

An open narrative on Valencian design

Far from offering a linear or closed history, «Scenes of Valencian Design» proposes a fragmentary approach to design as a cultural, economic and social phenomenon. Through ten new scenes, the book delves into the dynamics that have shaped an ecosystem recognised for its productive capacity, international projection and cultural density.

This second volume brings new voices into the project, adding Clara Sáez and Vicent Molins to the initial team formed by Eugenio Viñas and Lidia Caro, allowing for broader perspectives and enriching the narrative approach of the publication. The graphic concept, design, art direction and layout are once again led by Ibán Ramón, further consolidating the visual identity of this editorial collection and reinforcing the coherence of the project. In addition, the first volume of «Scenes of Valencian Design» has been widely recognised in the field of editorial design at an international level, receiving the ADG Laus 2025 Silver Award, the Bronze Award at the ADCE Awards 2025, and being a finalist in the recently announced ADCV Awards 2026.

Stories that build a culture of design

Among the contents of this new volume are stories ranging from the role of women in the history of Nolla mosaic to key figures such as Lola Castelló or architects Javier Goerlich and Rafael Tamarit, including milestones such as Espai Verd and contemporary phenomena from companies such as Closca.

The book also explores stories linked to industry and popular culture, such as the trajectory of Rolser, the history of the doll factories of Onil (Famosa), or the design of the pilota valenciana, as well as a chapter dedicated to Cobi, the iconic character by Javier Mariscal.

Design as a strategic tool

From the Design Foundation of the Region of Valencia, this project is conceived as a tool to strengthen collective awareness of the strategic value of design, not only in cultural terms, but also in its impact on the economy and our quality of life. The presentation of the second volume represents a new step in consolidating this editorial line, which seeks to document, interpret and project Valencian design from a contemporary perspective.

Currently, the first volume of this collection is available in specialised bookstores in València (IVAM, Nöstlinger, Bartleby, Bangarang, Espai Guastavino and Gnomo) and in our online store.
